  4. In MadhyaPrdesh,

Majhi(Mallah) and Majhwar(Gond Majhwar) both are tribe and both are different. The Mallah (Majhi)
belongs to Nishad Tribe (Mountain Tribe of Vindhya Range)or Primitive tribe(aboriginal tribe) and Majhwar (Manjhi) belongs to Gond, Munda & Kawar whoes are Dravidian Tribe not Primitive tribe. For this See "Crook 1896" In Which Crook's said They(Majhi-Primitive tribe) must be carefully Distinguished from Dravadian Manjhis (It is a Plural word not a singular word which means whoes Manjhis which has use manjhi word as Leadership or rank such as Gond Majhwar, Majhwar, Santhal, Bhatra, halwa, Barela etc tribes.)

  8. According to Government of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Social justice & Empowerment, Home Ministry-Registrar General of India, Ministry of Culture-Anthropological Survey of India and Lok Sabha Secretariat New Delhi.....................................

The majhi of Madhya Pradesh are traditionally a community of boatman and belong to the scheduled tribe category. They are also known by other synonyms such as Mallah, Kewat and Navik. There is a belief in the community that their forefathers once inhabited the banks of Ganges either at Banaras or at Allahabad and later migrated to the district of Shahdol, Rewa, satna, Panna, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh of Madhya Pradesh. The Total Population according to 1981 census is 11074. Their major economic resource is land and presently their primary occupation is agriculture and agricultural labour. Traditional occupation is Fishing.

Appendix I of people of India Vol. XI language & Scripts, dealing with the Communities. Language and their Distribution shows that Majhi, a ST Community of Madhya Pradesh speaks Bundelkhandi for ingroup communication and Nepali (Nepali Majhi) as intergroup language (p13-14). They use Devenagri script for writing.

Appendix V of people of India Vol. IX language & Scripts, details the language spoken for ingroup communication where it mentions that Bundelkhandi/Bundeli is a language of Indo-Aryan subfamily (Central) spread in area of Andhra Pradesh, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Utter Pradesh.
